Public health experts are joining calls for changes to MIQ.
An article by Otago University academics says requirements for returnees have become inconsistent and arbitrary.
They argue they pose less risk than Aucklanders in the community.
Otago University's Dr Lucy Telfar-Bernard told Heather du Plessis-Allan quarantine should continue for the unvaccinated and arrivals from some higher-risk countries.
“There is still a need for MIQ, but we just don’t have the settings currently reflecting the real risk.”
