Early lab results from a small South African study suggest the Covid Omicron variant may be able to bypass some of the Pfizer vaccine's antibodies.
Researchers studied samples from 12 double-jabbed people and found a 41-fold drop in antibodies’ virus-blocking ability in some.
They say more research is needed to confirm the impact of booster shots.
College of GPs medical director, Bryan Betty told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's really unclear at this point.
“It seems there’s a less antibody reaction to a single dose, but there is still some reaction. We don’t know the effect of a booster or whether a booster’s needed.”
