Rapid antigen testing kits will be available in pharmacies from December 15, to be conducted under supervision.
It's part of the Government's $1 billion investment package for living with Covid in the community.
College of GPs Medical Director Bryan Betty says told Heather Du Plessis Allan he is delighted.
“I mean the rapid antigen test, you get results in fifteen minutes, rather than waiting 3-5 days with the present test, readily accessible and will be used in a variety of areas, so it’s a big step forward.”
Betty says antigen tests will be widely used for screening, with a PCR test needed to confirm a positive result.
