A university's decision to 'decolonise' its curriculum is catching flack.
The University of Hull in England has instructed its lecturers to overlook spelling, punctuation and grammar errors.
It's hoped the move will help the university appear less elitist.
But Pead PR boss Deborah Pead told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's important to employers that workers can spell properly.
"Good grammar and spelling makes communication much more powerful - and I'm appalled at the dumbing down of the English language."
Pead says it's setting students up to fail.
“If I received an application with a cover letter littered with mistakes, I’d assume the person didn't care about the role."
