High rise apartments of at least six stories could be on their way for Auckland suburbs.

The Government's national policy statement is forcing Auckland council to allow more intensification across the city.

The likes of Remuera, Mt. Albert, and Milford on the north shore - all currently zoned for single houses - will see the biggest impact.

Property developer, David Whitburn told Heather du Plessis-Allan it’s a move that’s needed.

“As Auckland stands with 1.7 million people, we do need to go up instead of out, there’s a limit to how long we can spend on the Southern motorway in massive traffic jams”.
