Cabinet had been deciding today what to do about the Auckland boundary over summer, with an announcement expected later this week.

But according to the Herald, Cabinet ministers had been discussing putting hard borders around low-vaccinated areas, such as Tairawhiti, Northland and Lakes.

Taupo mayor David Trewavas told Heather du Plessis-Allan Taupo’s connectivity will make it pretty hard to maintain a hard border.

“It’s gonna be pretty hard and the boys are pretty stretched out with the judiciaries. It’s gonna be interesting, you come from north, south, east and west into Taupo, so it’ll be very, very interesting if they try to put a hard border up, that’s for sure.”
