We need clear rules, logic, and clarity.

That's David Seymour's message - as he savages the Government's divvying up of regions in its new traffic light system.

The likes of Auckland, Gisborne, and Northland will start in the most restrictive 'red' setting from Friday - while the South Island, and parts of the North, are at orange.

ACT leader Seymour told Heather Du Plessis-Allan none of it makes sense.

“Now you’ve got districts that have no Covid and high vaccination rates, including most of the South Island, at Orange, why should they not be at Green?”

Meanwhile, there is cautious optimism summer festivals can still go ahead.

Northland and Gisborne will host New Year's festivals Northern Bass and Rhythm and Vines which can only go ahead at Orange.

Settings will be reviewed on December 13.

But Promoters Association president Brett Eccles told Heather du Plessis-Allan he's hopeful.

“I always thought the Government will go, ‘well, you know, we’ll look at these areas like Gisborne for example and go, there’s gonna be a big festival there, so how can we make it Orange around the festival time?’ That’s what I thought would happen, and probably the same for Northern Bass and Northland as well.”
