It's the first day of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori or Māori Language Week and the Māori Party have announced their policy to have Aotearoa replace new Zealand as the country's official name by 2026.
Dame Tariana Turia spoke with Heather du Plessis-Allan and believes all place names in Aotearoa/New Zealand should be reinstated to their original ingoa or name.
"Why wouldn't we want to go back to the original names for all of these places?" says Dame Turia.
"We are the ones who have had to make the major changes.... we should be entitled to have our place names."
