Former Trump adviser on why we shouldn't let Huawei on our 5G network

The 5G debate is back on the table, and all eyes are on Britain.

The UK are set to decide this week whether to let Huawei build their 5G network or not.

It's speculated that if Boris Johnson decides to let the Chinese company in, Canada and New Zealand will follow.

The US and Australia have decided to turn down Huawei, so a move in the tech giant's favour could risk the unity of the Five Eyes program.

Robert Spalding, the former senior director for security strategy for President Donald Trump, has rallied against the idea.

He told Heather du Plessis-Allan that while he worked in the Air Force, the technology and business models that tech companies use to gather data has now been adopted by China and Russia.

Spalding says that research done in Australia Strategic Policy Institute has found credible evidence that Global Tone Communication Corporation, a Chinese company that has technology on Huawei phones, is doing this.

"It collects two to three terabytes of data per year. It sends that data to the intelligence arm of the People's Liberation Army and the influence arm of the Chinese Communist Party."
