A bit of a tease for Auckland.

The region's being told it could see easing of Covid-19 restrictions before it reaches its 90 per cent vaccination target.

Under the Government's new traffic light system, businesses will be able to open under all three colours, including red.

But people will need vaccination certificates to go to hospitality settings, gyms and hairdressers.

It'll kick into gear once district health boards reach the 90 per cent vaccination target.

And Auckland can move to the "red" setting when its three DHBs get there which could be early December.

Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins told Andrew Dickens that doesn't mean Auckland's restrictions will remain as they are until then.

“We’ll keep things under review and where there are additional changes we can make that make life a bit easier for people in Auckland, we’ll do that.”
