Green MP Chloe Swarbrick joined Heather du Plessis-Allan in the aftermath of her viral speech in parliament earlier this week, where she responded to heckling with “OK boomer”

Swarbrick says, having to continuously engage in what feels like should be evidence based and fact driven conversation, but then being told to sit down and shut up and get some life experience, was a big part of the reason behind the meme.

"When you are met with that kind of hostility, then saying something like 'OK boomer' just seems to kind of meet the rise, and means we can finally get on with the conversation that matters."

Swarbrick says the response comes from a collective sense of frustrations.
