The head of NZME is welcoming the government's media relief package, but wishes more had gone to print and digital media.

$50 million has been put aside to help the industry stay afloat.

A massive drop in advertising revenue has caused job losses and closures.

NZME chief executive Michael Boggs told Heather du Plessis-Allan he is pleased the Government has recognised the support the media needs.

"While we employ the most number of journalists and broadcasters in the country, I'm really disappointed actually that the money doesn't target that substantially.

"About two-thirds of it, really, has gone to the TV networks."

He says that there are some values that the company can get from it, such as the offer of targetted relief.
