Level 2 will mean back to business for Skyline's luge and gondola operations - but it'll be smaller operation.

The Rotorua and Queenstown tourism operator is planning to open by this weekend.

But chief executive Geoff McDonald says they're having to rethink staffing, shifts, and operating hours.

He told Heather du Plessis-Allan they're expecting a short spike in business - which will level off after a few weeks until there's a trans-Tasman bubble or more open borders.

"We think it's important to get out there. There's a symbolism in it as much as anything else, saying that we're back and getting on with it."
