SkyPath Trust pleased that shared path will go ahead

The SkyPath Trust is supporting NZTA's new design, paving the way for Aucklanders to soon be able to cycle and walk from the CBD to the North Shore.

The Trust has been pushing for a connection since 2006 and had a fully consented clip-under blueprint, which the Transport Agency has now ditched opting for a bridge-level clip-on

The new design will hold more people, and be safer in an emergency.

SkyPath Trust project director Bevan Woodward told Heather du Plessis-Allan even though their plan's been dropped, the new design's promising.

"They want to take SkyPath resource consent to get that amended for this new decision, and we're here to support them and work with them, and we will be doing our damndest to make this happen as fast as possible."

He says that the NZTA has more money than they ever envisioned, so has no issues with their design no longer being used.

SkyPath had been planning a protest after butting heads with NZTA over their use of their design, but Woodward says they will no longer be going down that path after today's news.
