The Prime Minister hasn't met up with Winston Peters since the election when New Zealand First was voted out.
It was Peters who anointed Jacinda Ardern as the Prime Minister three years ago.
Ardern says she has spoken to him on the phone.
"There's been a couple of other occasions where we've had messages conveyed, but I haven't caught up with him properly in a little while."
She says that she is sure they will have the opportunity to catch up soon, and has "no hesitation" to having a relationship going forward, given how closely they worked together.Â
Ardern would not drawn on whether Peters could be in line for an ambassador's job or any other diplomatic posting.Â
"It's not something that I think either of us has given consideration to.
"He's only just, of course, been in a position of not having a parliamentary role, which he's had for a number of years, so we need to give him time to consider what he wants to do next."
Peters was recently farewelled by ambassadors at Parliament, and Newstalk ZB's political editor Barry Soper says that the event was well publicised so Ardern could have met him then.
