The AA is pushing for urgent action on transport between Auckland and the North Shore.
There's been continued widespread traffic delays in the Supercity due to the Harbour Bridge's partial closure.
Southbound lanes will close from 9pm tonight until 5am during repairs - and buses won't run in either direction on the bridge for that time.
AA spokesman Barney Irvine says the current bridge won't cater to population growth in a few years.
He told Heather du Plessis-Allan action needs to be taken now, otherwise it will be decades away.Â
"It's such a big and complex project that I suppose it's easy for us to put our focus on other thing, things that are right in front of us, and we can't really afford to do that."
