A Muslim community leader's disturbed at the idea a planned film about the mosque attacks could get Government subsidies.

Official Information Act requests show producers of They Are Us were eyeing up as much as $20 million in rebates.

Islamic Women's Council spokesperson Anjum Rahman wants the Government to pull back on funding.

She told Heather du Plessis-Allan it shows the privilege filmmakers have.

They can get a subsidy by ticking boxes, but those impacted by the tragedy have no power.

"I would like to think that the communities, especially for a tragedy like this, would have some influence."

Rahman said she would like to see the government pull back on the funding and doesn’t want to see Ardern take centre stage in both the film and in the debate on the film.
