Police will not appeal the high court ruling that found that the way they issue formal warnings has no basis in law. Police are now going to focus on a review of the policy. Police say they need to make sure what when members of the public are given formal warnings, that person has informed consent about the warning process and its consequences.
Otago University Law Professor Andrew Geddis explained to Heather du Plessis-Allan what this ruling means.
