Children's commissioner promises changes to how Oranga Tamariki deals with Māori babies

A promise from the Children's Minister, that Maori will have greater say over what happens with their tamariki.

Children's Commissioner Andrew Becroft wants total transformation of the care and protection system for Maori babies.

He's asking the Government to transfer power and resources to Maori.

"We've got to step in and make an unmistakable cap on high case loads that stop social workers from doing their work properly."

Becroft says high case loads are a deep-rooted problem.
