Members of the Ngati Kahu iwi don't want the Endeavour replica docking at Monganui for the Tuia 250.

A flotilla is circumnavigating the country next month for the 250-year commemorations of Captain Cook's arrival.

The iwi's chief executive Anahera Herbert-Graves told Heather Du Plessis Allan the original Endeavour didn't come into their area - so it's inappropriate for the replica to come.

She says the iwi don't want to commemorate Cook's invasion.

"He was a military naval officer on a military naval ship with expressed orders to claim land for his team."

The Maori Crown Relations Minister isn't bothered by the decision.

Kelvin Davis says some support the Tuia 250 event, some don't.

He says this was up to Ngati Kahu.

"There's some people in Doubtless Bay that wanted the tuia to go ahead there, but it's not going to happen and we just have to move on."

Davis says he's heartened by support for the event from Maori and non-Maori.
