There was a strong united front from the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and Australia today.

Scott Morrison met Jacinda Ardern in Queenstown today and discussed climate change, trade and security and the Pacific rollout of Covid jabs.

Jacinda Ardern maintains we can see beyond our differences on things like deportations.

Waikato University International Relations expert Alexander Gillespie told Heather du Plessis-Allan our countries' closeness is important.

"The one thing we can be certain of, in the coming months, is that there will be more difficulties, and hopefully they will be a little more aligned at that stage."

He says that the approach is "glossed" but it's so far, so good.
