A teacher says the Wellbeing Budget is not enough to help education.

$1.2 billion will be spent on schools and education, including three new schools, four school expansions and 150 classrooms.

The Government will also pay $150 per student to any decile 1-to7 school who stops the voluntary school donation.

Wellington Primary school teacher Ahmad Osama told Heather du Plessis-Allan says the sector is struggling to hire and retain teachers.

"At the moment, we;'re having teachers that are coming in and citing that they can't work because the workload is unsustainable."

NZEI president Lynda Stuart says the funding for school donations is welcome, but overall, she's disappointed.

"Wellbeing really begins with a well-funded education system. The minister said we could be a bit disappointed with the budget, and I think he was probably right."
