Being leader of the Opposition is they say, the toughest job in politics.
Battling with the Prime Minister of the day in the House, mostly on a losing wicket and battling with the bastards on your own back benches quietly sharpening their knives.
So, for Judith Collins, 2021 is shaping up to be a beast of a year.
The polls suggest Labour can't put a foot wrong, the 1News/Colmar Brunton figures last night put the party 3 points higher than it was on election night.
On the other hand National is at 25 percent – even worse than on election night and 6 points down on the previous poll.
Judith Collins took a battering, she's slipped another 8 points to 12 percent in the preferred Prime Minister rankings.
They also give Christopher Luxon a couple of points in the PM rankings, and what I'd like to know if that's a prompted answer, or an unprompted one.
By that I mean...were people read or shown a list of names...or were they simply asked off the top of their heads who they think would be the best Prime Minister.
It's a really important distinction.
So Luxon sits on 2 percent, Winston Peters and Sir John Key got one percent and neither of them is in Parliament.
The point, Luxon is not necessarily the answer to National's problem.
He's actually a good salesman, but is he any better than Collins...not sure.
