Small business survey finds businesses need more help getting online

Complacency over their online presence is part of the reason some small businesses are struggling, post Covid.

A CPA Australia survey shows only 29 percent of small New Zealand businesses reported growth last year, compared with 49 percent in 2019.

The Asia-Pacific region's growth rate was nearly 50 percent in 2020.

Yellow chief executive Tracey Taylor told Kate Hawkesby these businesses need help to move online.

"The discussion is wider than just 'should I have Facebook' or 'should I have a website'. It's got to be about what's right for their business."

The survey has also ranked New Zealand last out of 11 markets in earning online sales revenue last year - which Taylor says that websites aren't the only option.

"The landscaper, particularly in social, is really big so it's what is right for them, and what is going to give them that customer number uplift or whatever is the return on investment that they are looking for."
