The number of dangerous criminals breaching Extended Supervision Orders has been steadily rising.
The orders are used to monitor people who authorities believe are a high risk of reoffending.
Last year 113 criminals breached the orders, compared to 66 in 2014.
Auckland District Law Society president Tony Bouchier told Kate Hawkesby it's a proportional rise.
"The numbers are increasing but also the number of people who have been put onto the 16 provision orders are increasing as well, so they are running hand in hand."
He says it's a good thing the number of detected breaches is so high.
"The idea is to protect the community from these people and the systems obviously working, they are keeping a very close eye on them, and when they do breach they are bringing them back to court."
