Lonely Planet's advice for how New Zealand can tackle tourism

New Zealand's missed out on claiming any of the top spots in Lonely Planet's best destinations for 2020. 

Bhutan has been named the number one country to visit next year. 

In previous years, New Zealand has made the cut as one of the best destinations, according to the global travel authority. 

Lonely Planet's Tom Hall told Tim Dower New Zealand has a few challenges ahead, in order to prevent over-tourism. 

"New Zealand has an opportunity to think about how it distributes tourists around the country, how it gives different experiences to those visitors, and how it encourages people to come at different times of the year."
