South Africa set to miss first three weekends of Rugby Championship

South Africa Rugby doesn't appear too stressed over a likely bank account hit.

SANSAAR has apparently given an extension until tomorrow night to make a final call on the Springboks' participation in this year's Rugby Championship.

The World Cup holders are scheduled to open their campaign against Argentina in Brisbane on November 7.

The players would need to be on a plane on Saturday night to fulfil quarantine rules, and no one has apparently spoken to them about it.

Sydney Morning Herald reporter Tom Decent told Kate Hawkesby that South Africa look set to miss their first match as they are not going to be in Australia in time to fulfil quarantine guidelines.

“Certainly a bit of a headache for everyone at the moment trying to understand what exactly South Africa are planning on doing considering it effects all the other people,” said Decent.

He said SANSAAR are looking at potential replacement teams for the period the Springboks will be absent.

Talks of a second Wallabies side or a Barbarians side have been thrown in the mix, but funding it may be a problem.
