Dairy farmers are pleased the Government has made changes to allow skilled migrant employees to return from overseas.
The Government's announced temporary work visa holders with strong links to New Zealand, will be able to apply to enter the country from October with their partners and children.
Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi will grant them a 12 month extension to travel here - or new 12-month visa.
He says if not for pandemic restrictions, they would be contributing to our team of five million.
Dairy NZ chief executive Tim Mackle says some of these workers have been here for 10 years.
"They have families and they are involved in the community and schools and so on, b ut they also have a lot of great skills that are important to the dairy sector, and the dairy sector is really important to New Zealand right now.
"So this is a great thing and we're pleased the Government have helped us out here."Â
Around 5600 residents unable to travel here will keep their residency thanks to the new visas.Â
Up to 850 workers stuck overseas with jobs or businesses here could resume their lives here with their partners and children.
And Australians are among some overseas citizens who could reunite with Kiwi partners if they prove they're in a genuine relationship.
