Parents are continuing to support teachers, despite the logistical nightmare.

More than half of New Zealand's schools have been forced to close today with more than 50,000 educators walking off the job.

They're fighting for better pay and working conditions.

Gladstone Primary teacher, Kahli Oliveria, told Kate Hawkesby support from parents is unwavering.

"They are getting annoyed, they are getting frustrated but they are completely supportive, they are the ones that see us on a daily basis - they know how hard we work."
