Calls for the Acts replacing the RMA to lead the charge in saving coastal homes.
The Resource Management Act's being scrapped, and in its place will be three new Acts aimed at tackling the housing crisis and environmental threats.
One of the three, the Climate Change Adaptation Act, will look at the $450,000 coastal properties expected to be impacted by sea level rise and extreme weather.
Local Government New Zealand president Stuart Crosby told Kate Hawkesby councils have tried addressing this issue for years, but have been working with poor legislation.
"Councils have been doing research, and putting notes on property files with regard to risk, so to have a clear path forward would be very helpful."
