It has been a busy night for emergency services in flood-ravaged Townsville.
The Australian Defence Force has received hundreds of requests for assistance overnight, with floodwaters continuing to rise.
Heavy rain is lashing the North Queensland city's CBD and its south-east is now completely cut off.
Parts of north and central Queensland could get another half a metre to a metre of rain over the next few days.
Australian correspondent Steve Price told Mike Hosking the rainfall has been unprecedented.
"The amount of water is just amazing. Townsville has had 1000mm of rain, it really is unbelievable."
Large crocodiles have also been spotted in several parts of the city.
Townsville Airport announced it had cancelled all flights in and out of the facility just after 6pm due to safety concerns.
