Pike River families are disappointed the former mine boss still feels no remorse.

Nearly eight years on from the disaster, Peter Whittall has told the Sunday Star Times he doesn't feel guilty about what's happened.

He says it's just human nature for people to find someone to blame.

Sonya Rockhouse, who lost a son in the disaster, told Kate Hawkesby his comments have added to the pain.

"That he would even make comments like that, it is just appalling that he would even think it's okay to say that stuff."
