Most toddlers are not meeting screen time guidelines.
The World Health Organisation says toddlers should get no more than one hour a day - but 80 per cent of two year olds and 95 per cent of three year olds are exceeding that.
The study also shows how much mum uses a screen links to how much their toddler uses one too.
One of the report authors, Sheri Madigan from University of Calgary's Department of Psychology, told Kate Hawkesby that latest research is not very surprising, as other research has shown similar results.
"Once children watch more than one hour of screen viewing per day, we do start to see more problematic outcomes. The greater the screentime, the greater the problematic outcome."Â
She says that researchers need to meet with parents and look further into the burdens that they are facing, which could be contributing to the reliance on screentime.
