Support is growing to click children into seatbelts on school buses.
Waitaki farmer Philippa Cameron has just lodged a petition of more than 6,000 signatures with Parliament asking for a law to make seatbelts in buses compulsory.
She was appalled to find her youngest daughter would be without a seatbelt when she first started the 32 kilometre journey to primary school.
Cameron told Kate Hawkesby some children are standing, yet the drivers are locked in.
"My daughter's bus route is on a State Highway so that's probably one of the safest journeys as opposed to some of the children in rural areas.
"They are on some pretty dodgy roads out the back."
