The government's being told road developments should be prioritised with the 6.8 billion dollars allocated to transport projects.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson has announced 12 billion dollars will be spent on infrastructure investments.
Road Transport Forum chief executive, Nick Leggett told Kate Hawkesby highway connections are vital for the country's growth, but believes there needs to be more people to pick up a shovel for those projects to be completed quickly.
"Projects around Auckland such as additions to State Highway one south of Takanini, have taken years to complete."
