One in five of all people wanting to take up a dairy apprenticeship comes from Auckland.
The Primary Industry Training Organisation and Federated Farmers are celebrating the first year of the joint Federated Farmers Apprenticeship Dairy Programme.
It's estimated the New Zealand dairy farming industry needs at least 17,000 new workers by 2025 to keep up with demand.
Primary ITO chief executive Linda Sissons told Kate Hawkesby so far around 240 people have registered their interest.
"More than a third of the people who are signing up are women. Just under half of them are in a career already but they want a change.
