A decision to bar some Australians from free study in New Zealand could be detrimental to the economy.
That's according to New Zealand Union of Students' Associations president Jonathan Gee.
Education Minister, Chris Hipkins said Australians will be denied free study and training here, unless they've lived here for at least three years.
Jonathan Gee told Rachel Smalley the country could lose out on top Aussie talent as a result of the policy.
"My understanding is that a lot of them would actually stay here in New Zealand post study and actually contribute to the economy."
