Protesters in France are continuing to cause disruption as they vent their anger over fuel prices.

Citizens are losing faith in Emmanuel Macron's pledge to restore the economy and unite the country in the face of so much anger.

Tensions have now calmed slightly following a drop in oil prices, but the country still remains volatile.

Hundreds were injured and arrested over the weekend as anger peaked.

Journalist John Lichfield is in Paris and told Kate Hawkesby at one point, motorists were paying around NZ$2.50 a litre.

"There are many new taxes which are being added on and proposed. The fact is the prices at the petrol pump have definetly dropped, but it has ignited a lot of anger."
