Tech giant Facebook is facing charges for targeting some job adverts to men only and excluding women from seeing or applying to them.

One of the companies filing charges against Facebook is Communications Workers of America.

Chief of Staff Jodi Calemine told Kate Hawkesby women see significantly fewer jobs opportunities because of this.

"When it comes to job ads, when you're a woman, you apparently see fewer of these ads than if you're a man and that's because Facebook has allowed employers to hide those job ads from women."

He says women aren't the only people Facebook has been excluding.

"The same is especially true for older workers, employers have been hiding job ads from workers based on their age as well, especially if they tend to be older people ."

"This stems from Facebook's business model. They're using the users' data to allow advertisers to micro target and this is fine when they're selling a product but when it comes to jobs, that's when people's civil rights come into play."

Calemine says the Police Department was one of the companies targeting their ads to men only.

He says his company filed charges in the hopes Facebook will stop allowing employers to target ads based on gender or age.

"We want this practice to stop. It would be very easy for Facebook to stop this practice. To top allowing advertisers when they are posting job ads to filter based on sex or age."

Calemine says they would like to see justice for any workers who have suffered discrimination.
