An Australian company has successfully banned Wednesdays, giving staff a four day working week.

Staff at digital marketing agency Versa haven't worked a Wednesday since July last year, and in that time the company has seen a 46 per cent increase in revenue, with its profits tripling.

Professor of Human Resource Management Jarrod Haar told Kate Hawkesby that there

"Wednesday allows people to focus Monday, Tuesday on their job, they have a break, and then they come back with all this renewed energy."

He says that it is "resharpening" the workers to allow them to do their best work in a short period of time.

Versa is the latest company to find success with four day weeks, but Haar warns it is not for everyone.

"There will always be one or two people who are different. If you don't have anyone at home, coming into work is your social connection."

Haar says issues such as competition between businesses will prevent it being common place.
