Kiwi dairy farmers are leading the world in low emission production, but there's always room for improvement.
AgResearch analysis placed New Zealand at the top for efficiency, with an average carbon footprint almost half the size of the 18 other countries.
Agriculture analyst Jacqueline Rowarth told Kate Hawkesby some fine tuning could create an even better result.
"When we help farmers who are struggling, we can improve the average."
Rowarth says they haven't had the fine detail until now.
She says it looks at supplementary feeds, pasture and grain around the world, and we have very efficient farmers.
