A suggestion the speed of gun law reform is too fast, is being played down by an expert on conflict.
ACT MP David Seymour is one who's criticised the "rushed process" of the incoming legislation.
He contends the short and sharp select committee process will deny the public the chance to have their say.
But Otago University's Kevin Clements says gun reform is a major step forward.
He told Kate Hawkesby he'd been calling for gun reform for a long time, only to fall on deaf ears.
"I mean it is precisely because of the possibility of a lone wolf attack or somebody having a psychotic break that we don't want these weapons available."
