A new trial using medicinal cannabis to treat epilepsy in children has returned exceptional results.
The trial at Sydney Children's Hospital showed all but one of a trial group of 40 saw positive results from using medicinal cannabis to treat their condition.
Epilepsy New Zealand chief executive Graeme Ambler told Tim Dower drug resistant epilepsy is what they're trying to combat with the trial.
He says just under one third one people diagnosed with epilepsy will fall into this group.
"There's about 48,000 people with epilepsy in New Zealand. So that's about six people diagnosed each day, so you take about a third of that, that's about two people each day are in this situation."
