Entertainment promoters are welcoming government action to prevent ticket scalpers from getting a big pay-day.
The Government plans to put a price cap on resale tickets, enforce rules around information disclosure, and ban ticket-buying “bots”.
Eccles Entertainment's Brent Eccles told Kate Hawkesby stories of people getting ripped off are too common.
"Because the entertainment business has got so big in New Zealand, it has attracted a lot of unscrupulous operators so anything we can do to stop that is a good thing."
He said it's difficult to turn people with fake tickets away.
"If the band hasn't received the money for the show, they can't let them in and it's a really complicated problem and it's time we did something about it [because] it's becoming more and more prevalent."
