A clinical psychologist says New Zealand's first coronavirus-linked death will be a wake-up call for some people.

Anne Guenole, in her 70s, has been identified as the first Covid-19 related death in this country.

There are now 514 confirmed and probable cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.

Victoria University's Dr Dougal Sutherland told Kate Hawkesby the death will make some people realise the virus really is in New Zealand.

"It's somebody in a small part of New Zealand, well away from where I would have predicted any death would occur."

He says people shouldn't let coronavirus be the only thing they're focusing on, and people should try not to look at their phones and computers all day.
