The National Party believes the government will come around on paying employees their full wage for taking time off for Covid-19.
The payment would be capped at two weeks, and, in an uncommon alliance, is similar in sentiment to the message from unions and the Green party.
National's Covid-19 response spokesperson Chris Bishop told Kate Hawkesby their ideas have a way of eventually coming to light.
He says the government initially rejects them, then in six to eight weeks they come out as policy.
"The money is there. The government has set aside $120 million for its leave scheme, but they've only spent $19 million."
