Repeat drink-drivers will now be required to install a breathalyser in their car.

Under a new law, repeat offenders will have to use an alcohol interlock breath-testing device before they start their car.

The interlocks are wired into the vehicle’s starting system.

Caroline Perry from Brake New Zealand told Kate Hawkesby our roads will be safer.

"We know the international research has proven that they are receptive at preventing repeat drink driving, reducing offending by an average of about 60 per cent."
