What's set to become one of the country's most expensive hotel suites may sit empty as borders remain shut.

Despite uncertainty around international tourism, the luxury Park Hyatt hotel in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter will open in September.

Its top-floor room is a $10,000 per night 'Presidential Suite' with panoramic views and a private garden and terrace.

Manager Brett Sweetman told Tim Dower they'll be changing their approach initially to target more budget-conscious Kiwi travellers.

"We have got four restaurants and cafes, and we're  just having to be patient and appreciate things will be different."

Brett Sweetman says the industry's desperate for movement around a trans-Tasman bubble by the end of the year.
