How would you feel about life insurance companies using your fitness data to decide how much insurance you pay?

Insurance companies are starting to use health and wellbeing data from gadgets such as Apple Watches, and adjusting premiums accordingly.

US tech reporter Angela Chen told Kate Hawkesby that when people meet certain daily goals, such as total steps, that information will be sent to the company and you will receive a discount.

"For many of this companies, it is opt in," she says, and imagines it will stay this way for a while.

However, Chen says that there are privacy concerns, and does not imagine it will stay this way forever.

"I think that the reality is, if life insurance company decided they were going to do this, there is very little powerful individual consumers would have."

She says that health and life insurance companies do want you to stay healthy.
