Labour's renewable energy policy is failing to impress Greenpeace, who say the party's lost it's sizzle when it comes to environmental issues.

Labour's announced a target of 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, which would need a pumped hydro plant in the South Island, at a cost of four billion dollars.

Greenpeace campaigner Amanda Larsson told Kate Hawkesby at the start of their term - Labour made bold moves in banning new oil and gas exploration offshore.

She says they want to see bolder policies that can be achieved in the short term, such as helping more people get electric vehicles and solar panels for their homes.

"The policy has some nice headlines,  but doesn't seem to be hitting the core of the issue.

"We should be focussing on transitioning transport and manufacturing away from dirty fuels such as coal, gas and oil."
